Supporting students and their communities in postsecondary readiness and planning
Students and families are often expected to make major decisions about college, careers, and finances with limited guidance. The Southland Readiness Project provides structured, strategic support to make the process clearer, more intentional, and easier to navigate.
The Southland Readiness Project (SRP) helps students, families, and schools make sense of life after high school by providing clear, structured support for postsecondary decision-making.

The SRP approach to postsecondary planning is grounded in MAAPS Coaching, a structured method designed to help students and families navigate life after high school with clarity, direction, and intention rather than guesswork. Postsecondary decisions are not solely academic. They are shaped by access, relationships, and the systems students must navigate.
M: Mapping the System: Understanding stakeholders, power dynamics, and how decisions are influenced
A: Assessing Your Reality: Identifying your starting point, including goals, resources, and circumstances
A: Aligning the Plan: Clarifying goals, interests, and building a personalized vision
P: Positioning for Access: Exploring strategies, opportunities, and resources that expand options
S: Sustaining Decisions: Building confidence, adaptability, and long-term follow-through
This approach is politically informed, recognizing how school structures, policies, and resource distribution influence the options students see and the choices they make. It also centers social-emotional awareness, acknowledging that confidence, belonging, and decision-making play a critical role in how students approach their future. In addition, experiential learning is incorporated to help students connect real-world experiences to their interests and goals in ways that feel relevant and actionable.
The SRP approach is also culturally relevant, recognizing that students’ identities, backgrounds, and communities shape how success is defined. There is no single “right” path after high school, but instead, the focus is on helping students and families identify and navigate pathways that align with their goals, values, and circumstances.
